Pawn shops could increase their revenue by using the Internet to bring more targeted customers to their website provided they have a website that does more than announce the hours of operation and provides a map to their location. Pawn shops online provide an alternative to shopping in the real-world brick-and-mortar pawn shop location.
Since the economy has gone south, more and more people have turned to pawn shops in order to make an income by selling unwanted valuables. If a pawn shop is online, they could do their shopping or selling online to avoid having to go into a pawn shop which some people still feel is embarrassing. Pawn shops have gotten a bad reputation for selling “hot” or stolen items but there are many safeguards in place now to prevent this from happening. For instance, a pawn shop requires picture identification from the person who is selling the valuable, no matter what it is, and a valid name and address to go along with the identification so that if the item does turn up stolen, the person could be contacted by the police.
Pawn shops work in one of two ways. One way is a person brings in their valuables and leaves them there as collateral for a loan for a period of time. The person receives a certain amount of cash for the valuables and then is expected to repay the loan with interest at the end of a specified period of time. If the loan is not repaid then the pawn shop is free to sell the valuable in order to make their money back. The other way a pawn shops works is a person brings in their valuable and sells it out right to the pawn shop in order to receive cash that does not have to be repaid and they will not get their valuables back. Many people prefer the second option the pawn shops offers because they can get rid of a lot of their unwanted valuables for cash and not worry about holding a garage sale or just giving it away to a Goodwill store.
An online pawn shop works the same way except most of them only deal in outright purchases of smaller valuables such as gold and silver jewelry and small electronics such as cameras and computers.
One way to attract customers to the online pawn shop is to align themselves with other websites that may or may not have anything to do with a pawn shop; they could have just done business with the pawn shop. For example, a company that makes white kitchen cabinets could have done business with the pawn shop and then they could participate in a link exchange where both companies have links to the other company on their website in order to gain more customers.
Even if a pawn shop is a real-world brick-and-mortar business, they need an Internet presence to bring more customers because more and more people are using the Internet to find what they need or want.
