A recent retailer study conducted by a magazine called Gifts & Decorative Accessories showed that 83 percent of responding retailers stocked candles and candle accessories which represented six percent of overall store sales.
Candles and scented candles are high on the list of products that sell through for retailers. In fact, there are few stores by any label that do not carry a candle or fragrance item. The challenge for retailers may be to find the blends that please their customers and their price range. Scented candles are back in popularity and many manufacturers are wholesalers of scented candles have literally hundreds of scent combinations to choose from.
Currently, subtle scents are at the top of customers’ lists as the scents they reach for. Scents such as lemon verbena and lavender are the top choices flying off the shelves.
Some consumers are worried about how green their candles are and we don’t mean the color. There are many choices for environmentally friendly candles. Soy candles burn soot-free in addition to burning 50 percent longer than paraffin candles. The choices are organic and GMO-free which will boost your candle’s green factor. Pure beeswax, 100 percent pure candles, last a long time and release air-cleaning negative ions as they burn. Beeswax candles are also allergy-free and come in a variety of natural colors. Palm wax or palm oil comes from inside coconuts so it can be extracted without harming the coconut trees.
One may think a candle company is busiest during the holidays, however many candle companies are busy year-round because candles make great gifts not only for Christmas, Hanukah or Kwanzaa, they make great gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, Mother’s Day or just about any holiday or special occasion or for no occasion at all. A candle is a great gift.
Candles can be found in many retail shops, convenience stores, gift shops and even specialty cheese and wine shops; since they are such a versatile gift, nearly all types of retailers can stock their shelves with candles and know they will be purchased before too long. And unlike some gift items, candles have a long shelf life.
