Solar Powered Traffic Signs save Lives throughout a City, State and Highway

solar traffic signsEach state has a statistic they would rather forget and that is the number of construction or highway workers that have been injured or killed on the job do to the negligence or just plain distracted drivers of vehicles near construction sites who were not paying attention or driving too fast. Bad weather also plays a major role in accidents involving road crews and construction site workers.

One solution to cutting down or stopping construction site accidents is with solar traffic signs. These signs are designed to help distracted drivers notice the three or four flashing LED lights which are powered by the sun’s energy and hopefully heed the warning on the sign, such as ‘slow – highway worker’s ahead’ or ‘reduce speed – construction ahead’.

With the solar panels using the sun’s ultra violet light, there is no need for long extension cords to use electricity from a building or gas powered generator to power the lights, both options are costly and not very environmentally friendly.

Solar powered traffic signs could be placed anywhere there is a regular traffic sign and can save many lives. Distracted drivers are the number one cause of traffic accidents in the country. Distracted drivers include drivers who drink or are under the influence of drugs, distractions from within the car such as looking for a CD or fiddling with the radio, talking to passengers or simply thinking about things that are going wrong in your life and the mounting list of things you have to do before your day is done.  All of these things can distract drivers from paying attention to the road ahead, causing them to miss important street signs.

Solar powered safety signs use the sun’s energy, even on an overcast day when the sun is not shining, to collect the sun’s ultraviolet rays to generate the LED lights so that they may flash on and off and help distracted drivers see the light and ultimately the sign so they may avoid accidents and continue on the road to their destination without incident.
